Privacy policy for aDJusted
This is a translation. The German version is the binding one: Datenschutzerklärung (Deutsch).
In short
- aDJusted works on your Mac. Your music, your analyses, your crates and your settings do not leave it. We never get to see them.
- The app only asks about updates — and only if you want it to. Out of the box it does not look by itself; you switch that on or check by hand. Nothing else goes to the internet: no usage statistics, no automatic crash reports, no advertising, no tracking.
- Data only reaches us when you look for updates or send us something — an e-mail, or a diagnostics file you attach yourself.
- The iPad remote only talks to an iPad on the same local network, and only when you switch it on.
1. Who is responsible
The controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Alexander Fieder
aDJusted – Made by DJs
Ahrfeldstr. 33
45136 Essen
Germany
E-mail: dj@adjusted.club
There is no data protection officer; none is required by law. For any question about data protection, the address above is all you need.
2. What stays on your Mac
aDJusted keeps its working data on your Mac, in the folder ~/Library/Application Support/DeckLab/: analyses (beatgrids, tempo, key), separated tracks (stems), cue points, your own crates, controller mappings, settings and a log of the app.
This data does not leave your Mac, and we have no access to it. It stays until you delete it — with the folder or with the app. aDJusted does not change your music files themselves.
Audio input. When you play with timecode records, aDJusted reads the signal of your audio inputs to work out the speed, direction and position of the record. For this, macOS asks the first time for access to the microphone or audio input. The signal is analysed in real time and discarded immediately — it is neither recorded nor stored nor transmitted. If you do not use timecode, you do not need to grant access and can decline.
Music library. aDJusted reads your library from the Music app — titles, artists, playlists and file paths — as well as Serato crates from your disk, to show them in the browser. macOS asks for your permission for this. It is read on your Mac; nothing of it is transmitted, except to your own iPad when you use the remote (section 3).
3. iPad remote
With the iPad remote you operate the mixer and browse your crates from an iPad. It is switched off until you switch it on in the settings.
When it is on, aDJusted announces itself on the local network so that the iPad can find it — under the name of your Mac, as shown in System Settings under “General → About”. Every device on the same network can see this name. If it contains your name and you do not want that on someone else's network, you can change it there.
Once connected, the iPad receives: the state of the mixer, levels, an overview of the waveform, and your crates with titles and artists. The connection is encrypted and runs only on the local network — not over the internet and not through us.
Please note: as long as no iPad is connected, aDJusted accepts the first connection that comes; pairing with confirmation does not exist yet. On a network you share with strangers, switch the remote on only when you need it.
4. Diagnostics file
In the settings, “Collect diagnostics” creates a text file for bug reports. It is saved to your Downloads folder and contains: the version and build of the app, your macOS version, the Mac model, processor, memory and number of cores, the app's latest messages, and the three most recent crash reports that macOS itself wrote about aDJusted.
It may contain file and folder names from your music collection, and the crash reports from macOS contain paths in which your user name may appear. It is an ordinary text file: look at it and delete anything you do not want to send.
The file is not sent automatically. Only if you e-mail it to us do we process it — to find the bug, on the basis of Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR insofar as it concerns the functioning of the app you use, and otherwise on the basis of our legitimate interest in a bug-free app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We delete it once the bug is fixed, after 30 days at the latest.
5. Looking for updates
aDJusted can check whether there is a new version — but only if you want it to. In the settings under “General → Updates” there are two switches for this, both off out of the box:
- “Check for updates at launch” — the app checks once when it opens, never later and never while a deck is playing. An update it finds opens no window; it then shows in the settings and in the app menu.
- “Download updates automatically” — an update found at launch is downloaded in the background and put in place when you quit the app, without a restart. Without this switch an update is only shown, and you decide yourself.
Regardless of the switches, you can check by hand at any time (“Check for Updates …” in the app menu, or “Check now” in the settings).
Each check fetches a small file from updates.adjusted.club that says which version is the newest; when an update is downloaded, the installation file comes from the same server. As with any request on the internet, the server learns your IP address, the time, and the name and version of the app and of the update program Sparkle. The app sends nothing about your Mac, your music or how you use it.
We run this server ourselves. It is located in a data centre in Vienna, Austria, and is provided on our behalf by netcup GmbH, Emmy-Noether-Straße 10, 76131 Karlsruhe, Germany (data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR). Your data does not leave the European Union.
In the server's log your IP address is shortened — for IPv4 the last of four blocks is removed, for IPv6 everything after the first three — so that it no longer points to your connection. The logs are deleted after 7 days at the latest.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR: we provide you with updates while you use the app (§ 327f German Civil Code), and the check only takes place when you have switched it on or started it yourself. Updates are offered to you regardless of any licence.
6. Contact by e-mail
When you write to us, we process your address, your message and anything you attach, in order to reply to you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for questions about the app, otherwise (f)). E-mails to our address are processed on our behalf by Microsoft 365 (Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited). We delete the correspondence once it is settled and no statutory retention obligation applies.
7. What does not exist
aDJusted contains no usage statistics or telemetry, no automatic crash reports, no advertising, no tracking and no profiling. There is no automated decision-making within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.
Should that ever change, we will ask you first — and this policy will change before the version of the app that introduces it is released.
8. Your rights
You have the right of access to the data we hold about you (Art. 15 GDPR), to rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). Where we process something on the basis of our legitimate interest, you can object (Art. 21). You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3)).
An e-mail to the address in section 1 is enough.
You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), for example the one responsible for us: Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen, Kavalleriestraße 2–4, 40213 Düsseldorf, Germany.
9. Changes to this policy
